My friend Sue turned me on to the new Starz original series, Boss.  It's stars Kelsey Grammer as the Mayor of Chicago, where all the wheeling and dealing of the city's politics are played out, all while the Mayor is suffering from and trying to hide a terminal illness (note-this is not a spoiler, you learn about his health within the first five minutes of the first episode).  Oh man.  This series is GOOD.  Like, really good.  Kelsey Grammer as Mayor Kane makes you forget all about his role as Frasier Crane.  Every episode tops the last and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that a lot of what we see on the show really does happen in real life politics.  Maybe that's part of why I like it so much!  

Aside from the drama, one of my favorite characters is the the Mayor's wife, Meredith Kane-played by Connie Nielsen.  Her wardrobe consists of fitted sheath dresses and skirt suits that are so minimalistic yet so powerful.  And she is simply stunning.  I was shocked to learn she is 47 freaking years old.  Talk about INSPIRING!  I guess she is showing the movie business who is the REAL boss!

I just finished watching Season 1 and am ready to start catching up on Season 2.  Quite frankly, I'm shocked it was shut out at the recent Emmy nominations.  It's total motivation to get me up and running on the treadmill for an hour!  If you're looking for a smart, well written, well acted, and fast moving drama to watch this weekend,  I highly recommend this one!

I'm trying to fit some of favorite dresses that I never seem to wear enough of during the summer.  There just don't seem to be enough days!

I feel like I've been on a roll getting things done lately.  

1) Upgraded my iPhone 3g for the 4s.  Sure, the new 5 is coming out, but I'm a cheapskate when it comes to getting a new phone.  I mean, I held onto that 3g forever.  And only when it barely held a charge and I couldn't find a new case for the one I cracked and glued back together (twice), did I finally decide, "it was time".

2) We ordered our holiday party invites!  

3) I'm getting the cushions recovered on the danish lounge chair I found on the curb about three years ago.  Every so often Mr. M would say, "When are you going to get those cushions done?"..."Maybe instead of new throw pillows you should get that chair done...", or "Looks like those cushions still need to get done".  Now, the fabric has been purchased and they are finally getting the face lift they so desperately need!  Looks like Mr. M is going to have to find a new bone to pick...(no worries, I'm sure there are plenty!)

I'm not sure what I'll tackle next, but I feel like I need to keep the momentum going, you know?

Okay, it wasn't until I uploaded these pictures that I realized I was a small fruit salad of pineapples and pears in this outfit.  Thankfully, I didn't walk around with my work tote all day.

Spike the Punch necklace

I picked up these House of Harlow sunglasses on sale with an extra percentage off.  I really wanted a pair of aviator sunglasses, but every time I tried a pair, the nose grips always got tangled in my hair when I put them on my head.  I like these because the grips are fully attached to the glasses, voila-no tangled mess when I go to take them off my head and back on my face!  It's the little things...

The Orla print is just a shrink wrapped covering on the plastic bottle but for $2.99, I guess you can't expect an authentic Orla Kiely pump.

My own keen observation skills detected some empty spots on the shelf at Target where some other products should have been.  Never one to leave a stone unturned (or an Orla Kiely item unpurchased), I will be taking myself to another Target to see what I might be missing out on.

Okay, so I almost didn't post this outfit because of the wrinkled skirt.  But you know what?  This is exactly what I look like after 10 hours at work, up and down at my desk--complaining, laughing, and "motivationally interviewing" a lot of people that don't want to be motivated. These J.Crew No. 2 Pencil skirts wrinkle like a dickens, but that hasn't stopped me from picking up, oh, I don't know...maybe two more (on sale, of course).  Damn skirt...I can't quit you!

I've been on a kick this summer--stockpiling fun colored pants that go on sale.  

It's a problem. 

Sassy Sydney Patent Sandals

I ordered these sandals at first cut but returned them because they were still too expensive (in my opinion) for the quality.  When they made it to what I think was and still is a 3rd cut, PLUS a percentage off, I re-bought them.  Mind you, they aren't a 10 hour work day shoe because there is little to no padding on the foot bed, but that didn't stop me from wearing them two days in a row.  Granted, by hour 8, my walk to the copy machine was a little slower and I think I staffed a couple cases via email versus face to face with my supervisor, but dang it, they are cute!
