I've never been the girl who went for regular manicures. Between clicking away at the keyboard or doing a sink full of dishes {I already know what you're going to say Mr. M, and yes, I DO do dishes!}, nicely painted nails don't last too long on me. I'm also pretty lazy with taking off chippy polish. Yes, I've been known to slap another coat on to try and mask the ragged ends. But lately, I've found myself excited to wear glitter and quirky colored polish. I have no problem spending $8 on a pretty pink or dark purple polish, but not so much on mint or yellow. I picked up this minty green polish for two bucks at Target and sure, the brush was pretty weak and you need to apply a few good coats, but I was pleasantly surprised it lasted a good week before showing signs of wear. Color me happy, indeed.
Anyone else feeling the need to add a little more polish to their routine? Any other inexpensive recommendations?
This outfit was 100% inspired by Lauren's ensemble.
I was excited to find a fun way to wear this vest I picked up for around $30.

Lately, I've really liked painting my nails, too - I think it's because a friend has an amazing nail polish blog, and I was jealous of her glittery nails! I also thought I'd never be able to do it as nicely as a professional place, but all the stuff you get on your skin comes off after a shower, anyway. I really like that mint color! I have a hot pink I got in my last Birchbox I've been liking lately.... it's Color Club, which is relatively inexpensive but stays on surprisingly long!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading some nail blogs, too. What is your friends? I'm always amazed what people are able to design on nails!
DeleteI love the mint! It looks lovely on you!
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago, I never painted my nails. But now, I can't go out without my nails did. It's almost an obsession! The catalyst to my obsession is a quick drying top coat. With Seche Vite, I can paint my nails and they are dry in 15 minutes - with multiple coats. I've tried many kinds, but Seche Vite is the my favorite it's super, shiny and beautiful. The best place to buy is Sally's.
I usually try to stay away from glitter/shimmer/flakey polishes because they take so much longer to remove. But lately I have branched out and tried some Wet'N Wild polishes for $1-$2 - can't beat that!
No, $1-$2 for funky polish is right up my alley! I agree, glitter polishes are so hard to remove! A friend told me she read in Real Simple is to use felt. I haven't tried it yet, but figure it can't be worse than the cotton pads. I'm going to check out that top coat you mentioned, thanks for the tip!
DeleteI'm not a manicure girl, either, but I'll admit to a semi-recent weakness for grabbin' a bottle when I'm in a drug store (a bit too frequently). "Minted" by Revlon is my absolute favorite mint! And I actually love the Rimmel polishes at Target---perfect brush shape for me, anyway!
ReplyDeleteLove this look on you---the leopard pumps are perfect.
I could spend a good hour at Walgreen's looking at their health and beauty buys!
DeleteReally love the stripes peeking out...so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tara!
DeleteThank you so much for the shoutout! I love the navy and the stripes SO much. Right up my alley! Please do tell what that great $2 nailpolish brand was, too!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lauren. I'm wearing Sinful Colors polish. I was skeptical, but I'd def buy another bottle.
DeleteI've found some great inspiration at your blog, thanks for visiting mine!
you look so cute! and that nail color is so pretty. I love a nice manicure :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sobrina!
Deletelove that vest
ReplyDeletewearing a nail polish very similar to what you have on
brett
You look cute! I try to always have painted nails and toenails.
ReplyDeleteMy nails tend to be a little weak, so I usually don't polish them. If it's chippy, it chips my nails off. I like your stripes & leopard. Aren't those shoes the best.
